Pier 1.5- Ferry Building
This is a great stop to walk to Market street . The Pier 1.5 is just a block or so toward Fisherman’s Wharf from the Ferry Building. Hop-on to catch a ride to the Hyde Street Fishng Harbor (near to the historical maritime exhibit) which is near the Cable Car turnabout, Ghirardelli Square and exploring the Wharf.
Some of our savvy travelers catch a ride from Pier 1.5 to the Hyde Street Fishing Harbor, then grab a bite and walk back to Pier 39. Once done, they call to coordinate a Pier 39 pickup and ride back downtown.
The Ferry Building provides access to bay shuttles to Marin County, Oakland and Vallejo/Mare Island.
For a special treat, hop on the San Francisco Water Taxi and catch a ride to day baseball games at Oracle Park or basketball games at Chase Center. One-way fare apply, see the Rates and Schedule webpage.
A seasoned walker can cut through the Financial district to tour Chinatown. A trek to Union Square is very doable. Be forewarned a trek to Grace Cathedral, the Fairmont Hotel or Mark Hopkins requires steep climbs.
